Esther Lihj
Esther Li graduated from the Western Australia Academy of performing arts (WAAPA) with a Bachelor degree in Jazz Performance in 2012 and completed a Post-graduate Diploma of Education at Edith Cowan University (ECU) in 2014.

Born in Singapore, Esther started learning Classical piano at the age of 6 and like many other kids, she signed up and took the Piano Graded Exams from the Associated Board of the Royal School of music (ABRSM). Finally in 2009, she passed her Grade 8 Classical piano with Distinction. It was a triumphant moment, however the music journey has not been a smooth one.

Having caught in the cycle of preparing piano pieces each year solely for the graded exams, Esther finds piano lessons rigid and stifled creativity. She was not conscientious and serious in practising piano and stopped taking piano lessons multiple times in her life. Fortunately, the love for music keeps drawing her back and finally, the discovery of contemporary piano sparked her musical interest.

The satisfaction of being able to play the top 40 hits on the piano by ear was tremendous and contemporary music eventually led Esther into Jazz. She felt that the freedom of expression and improvisation in Jazz offered a much greater sense of musical ownership than Classical Music. In no time, she became serious in pursuing music and was hooked on learning more about Jazz harmony and the intriguing improvisation concepts. In 2010, she enrolled into WAAPA and started her life as a Jazz musician.

Esther has performed at prominent venues, such as the Esplanade in Singapore, the Laneway lounge and the Ellington Jazz club in Perth, Western Australia. Besides weddings and music venues, she has also played at various corporate functions.
